Research Position Statement

Australian Yowie Project

The Australian Yowie Project does not claim definitive confirmation of a relic hominin species within Australia.

No physical specimen has been recovered. No formal taxonomic submission has been made. No genetic material has been independently verified to the standard required for species classification.

However, after multiple decades of field documentation, geographic pattern analysis, morphological comparison and structural observation, we maintain that sufficient prima facie evidence exists to justify serious consideration of the following working hypothesis:

That a modern descendant population of relic hominins originating from the broader Australasia–Asia evolutionary corridor may persist in isolated Australian environments in the 21st century.

This position is not presented as conclusion.

It is presented as conditional inference based on:

  • Repeated morphological consistency in independent witness reports

  • Large bipedal footprint documentation in regions lacking comparable fauna

  • Ground and arboreal structural formations inconsistent with known Australian species

  • Ecological modelling supporting the plausibility of small, low-density concealment

  • The historical presence of archaic hominin populations within the wider region

The term “prima facie” is used deliberately. The observable material does not constitute proof beyond reasonable doubt. It does, however, meet the threshold required to move the subject beyond folklore and into disciplined biological inquiry.

The absence of a specimen remains the central limiting factor.

Until such time as verifiable biological evidence is obtained and subjected to independent peer review, the existence of a relic hominin species in Australia must remain unconfirmed.

Nevertheless, the Project maintains that the cumulative weight of documented observations warrants continued structured investigation.

Inquiry remains open.
